Meet Jim

  • Jim Dunnigan is a lifelong advocate for the community he proudly calls home. Jim and his wife Vicki have lived in Taylorsville for 48 years, where they raised their two children, both graduates of Taylorsville High School, and now enjoy time with their six grandchildren.

Jim’s commitment to service began locally. He served on the Taylorsville/Bennion Community Council from 1991 to 1996, helped organize Taylorsville’s incorporation as a city, and later served on Taylorsville’s inaugural City Council from 1996 to 2002. He is also a small business owner in Taylorsville and proudly serves as Chairman of the Taylorsville Dayzz Festival.

  • As a state legislator, Jim Dunnigan has built a reputation for experience, integrity, and results. He has been recognized as a 2020 Business Champion by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, named Utah Small Business Champion of the Year by the National Federation of Independent Business, and honored as a Top 30 Business-Friendly Legislator by the Utah Business Coalition.

Jim has also been recognized for his service and leadership by Taylorsville City, the Utah Health Insurance Association, and community organizations across the state. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Utah and brings real-world experience to every decision he makes at the Capitol.

  • Jim fights for the shared values of the people of Taylorsville and West Jordan. He has consistently opposed new taxes, voting against the food, gas, and property tax increases, because he believes families know how to spend their own money better than the government does.

As a small business owner, Jim understands what it takes to run payroll, comply with regulations, and create jobs. That’s why he champions lower taxes, fewer burdensome regulations, and policies that allow Utah’s economy to thrive.

Jim strongly supports Utah’s teachers and students, believing education decisions should be made by Utah families, not federal bureaucrats. He is also a staunch defender of states’ rights, local control, and government transparency. Jim led the investigation into former Attorney General John Swallow and passed Utah’s most significant campaign finance reform in decades.

Jim has consistently protected senior citizens in Utah by voting for and cosponsoring legislation to increase the amount of income seniors can earn without their Social Security benefits being taxed.

Protecting consumers is a priority for Jim. He sponsored and passed legislation to eliminate predatory lending practices, ensuring that individuals facing financial hardship are not taken advantage of.

Jim Dunnigan believes leadership means showing up, telling the truth, and putting the community first, always.
